The undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering was evaluated and judged to be substantially equivalent to similarly named accredited programs in U.S.A. by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.) for the first time in 1996, and became the first Mechanical Engineering program in Turkey obtaining such an evaluation.

The program was re-evaluated by ABET in 2004 according to EC2000 criteria and again found to be substantially equivalent to similarly named accredited programs in the U.S.A.

In the Fall of 2009, the undergraduate program has been evaluated for full accreditation by ABET and the process is still in progress.
