Course Contents:

This is a theoretical course where we will see how to establish the governing equations for various problems. However we will not see the solution techniques of the equations thus obtained.

Introduction and Preliminary Topics (Scalar, vector, tensor)
Kinematics of a Continuum (Rigid body motion vs. deformation, displacement, acceleration, strain)

Kinetics of a Continuum (Tractions and stresses)
Balance Relations (Mass, momentum and energy)
Constitutive Relations (Material laws)
Boundary and Initial Conditions
