ME 437 is
the first course in Pipeline Engineering , mainly concerned with
transmission and distribution pipelines for both liquid and gas
systems. It is mainly a fluid mechanics applications course,
but materials, mechanical considerations,design, constructional
and economic aspects are also emphasised.Introduction to pipeline
transportation. Flow in pipelines. Liquid and gas pipelines. Pipeline
Components : Linepipe, Pumps & Compressors, Valves, Regulators,
Tankfarms, etc. Pumping stations and pumping station hydraulics.
Design of transmission and distribution pipelines. Economic strategic,
constructive and operational aspects of design. Constructional Practices
for Pipelines. Operation, control and operational problems of pipelines.
Pipeline transients. Drag reduction. Computer aided simulation and
design of pipelines. Energy transportation pipelines. Solid
transportation Pipelines. Two phase flow Pipelines. Laboratory experiments.
